Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children together, so to secure a title is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
